Nia Dance

Nia Dance | Holistic Fitness Practice

Nia Dance is an energetic, fun, fusion that incorporates a unique blend of modern dance, martial arts and mindfulness in a workout set to music. Nia Dance conditions and strengthens the body, while helping to transform the mind. It is wonderful, holistic fitness practice that can be enjoyed by all.

The Nia Technique was founded in 1983 by Debbie Rosas and Carlos Aya Rosas in San Francisco and was initially known as non-impact aerobics - a health and fitness alternative that evolved to include neurological integrative practices and teachings.

Nia dance classes with Julie Lacey

When you attend my Nia classes, I encourage dancers to feel ease and comfort in the routines. To draw on different rhythms and tempos to move in their way and bring their own unique expression to the dance! And of course to have fun!

“I came to your Nia class at Just Thrive a few weeks ago, and just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. It was the first Nia class I'd ever attended and it was wonderful!

Your relaxed, welcoming attitude, explanations and musical choices made it all so much fun. In fact I really felt like I was outside in a field at a festival in Scotland, which is my happy place and where I dance with total freedom!”

Nia. Expressive Movement. Focused Intent. Meditative Quality.
